Whether it’s finding your next train or taking a flight across the ocean, travel can be incredibly stressful. Google Wallet is already an essential travel app, but it’s getting a nice update that will make it even more useful on the go.

You’re likely familiar with how Google Wallet can already send you notifications about travel. for example, if you have a boarding pass in your wallet, you’ll get an alert if the departure time or gate changes. But now, Wallet is getting even more powerful notifications with the adoption of Live Updates from Android 16. This will turn those static alerts into dynamic, real-time information you can more easily see at a glance.

Google Wallet’s Live Updates will be available for “flights, train trips, and events.” These will show up as flight duration progress bars, countdowns for train departure, and other updates that are associated with passes and tickets stored in your wallet. Live Updates can appear as a pill in the status bar, notifications with real-time progress, and on your lock screen and always-on display. The idea is you don’t have to open an app to get up-to-date information.

This capability was detailed in a recent update to Google Play services, and it’s something Google talked about at I/O 2025. Back then, they mentioned Live Updates coming to Google Maps, Waymo, and Uber Eats for ride-share and food delivery tracking. Personally, I used Google Maps extensively during a recent trip abroad, and the Live Updates were super handy. Without unlocking my phone, I could see which metro station was approaching and how many more stops until my destination.

In addition to Live Updates, adding your cards to Google Wallet is about to get even simpler. You’ll be able to add credit or debit cards through supported issuer apps without having to enter all the details manually. On older devices, Android 12 or earlier, Google Wallet will send a notification if you have a loyalty pass in Gmail to import.

Google Wallet now supports Live Updates for flights on Android 16 and above. Before your flight takes off, the Live Update notification appears on your lock screen and always-on display. It shows a progress bar for the flight and information about your boarding pass. Tapping the Live Update brings you to the ticket page in Google Wallet.
